About staying in self-catering cottage farm nearby Howgill Fells

Lock Bank Farm still practices many traditional farming techniques, such as hedge laying, drystone walling,dyking (coping), haymaking, hand sharpening, hand sheep shearing.
 
A hefted flock of Rough Fell sheep are kept. They are a breed which is indigenous to the Howgill Fells and surrounding area. The Sedgwick family have farmed this breed on the Howgills since 1760.
 
The Dairy herd is small by todays standards producing enough milk to supply the Milkround. The cows are mostly Brithish Fresians as they are best suited to the location and terrain of the farm.

During the summer months the cows are walked up and down the road twice a day for milking.

Adopt An Animal Scheme

Following numerous requests you can now adopt an animal at Lock Bank Farm. Animals available for adoption include our sheepdogs, lambs and calves. Click here for more information on our adopt an animal scheme.

All the calves are hand reared after a healthy start on their mothers. If you come and stay you could help us feed the calves.
